Murray Hall Renovation, College

The Murray Hall Renovation is a 50,000 sq.ft. classroom building housing the
English Department and various computer-related facilities. The rehabilitation
and renovation of this building included interior retrofitting, mechanical and
electrical, all keeping within historical guidelines. This project included, but
was not limited to, electric service upgrading, new windows, new lighting
layout, air conditioning, new interior finishes, new roofing, a new sprinkler
system and handicap accessibility.
Project was completed in less than one year.

New one-story, 25,000 sq.ft. facility divided into three
wings. Each wing is to have 4 to 5 classrooms. Kitchen and offices are located
at the core.
Summer Camp for Children - approximately 2500 sq.ft.
Building utilized for Sands Casino employee's children.
Library alteration including new lighting, ceiling,
redistribution of air supply and bathroom facilities.
This new $7 million dollar Library addition of a 3rd floor
"shell", new 4th floor and renovation was completed July 1994. Building is
completely sprinklered, new air conditioning, lighting and plumbing for the new
floors. Data transmission wiring throughout. Replaced the existing fire alarm
with a new multiplex system.
Library, Media Center and 1,000 Seat Theater and Black Box Theater.
BEA was responsible for the design and construction administration of the Mechanical and Electrical systems for a new 6-Story Medical Office Building attached to the main hospital.
The consulting engineering services included the "Shell" and
Tenant Fit-Up design of the HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Electrical
Systems for areas containing doctor's office, suites with examining rooms, a
10,000 sq.ft. obstetrics/gynecology clinic and a ground floor outpatient
clinic with a dedicated dental treatment facility. The Dental and Operating Room
included the installation of medical gas, vacuum and anesthetic piping. Space
for a McDonalds restaurant was provided.
A $40 million dollar addition (136,000 sq.ft.) and Renovation (131,000 sq.ft.) including new entrance lobby, 12 operating room suites, LDRP suite, medical surge (32) wing, Day Accommodation Center, Admissions, lab and testing, rehabilitation Ambulatory Center, Psychiatric Department, Social Services, Hydrotherapy, In and Out Patient Gym, Rehabilitation Medicine, Audiology and Administration.
Mechanical, Electrical and Fire Protection for the 5-Story
Medical Office Building was designed by BEA as a "Shell" in the 1st phase and
completed tenant fit-up in the 2nd phase. Building contains a computer room,
offices and ancillary spaces.
Preparation of Mechanical and Electrical plans and specifications for the new building additions and building renovations to the Helene Fuld Hospital. The engineering services included the design of M&E systems for the following additions; new emergency room / trauma room, MRI outpatient administration services and treatment center, emergency room main entrance lobby and waiting room, outpatient main entrance lobby and waiting room with gift shop and coffee bar, and renovations to accommodate the new psychiatric screening center.
Renovated areas are estimated to be 12,700 sq.ft. and the new construction is 24,800 sq.ft.

MEP includes dedicated rooftop gas fired HVAC units for all common areas, including the dining rooms, lounges, lobbies and corridors. All perimeter resident rooms and offices are provided with air-to-air heat pump units to maintain individual space conditions. Domestic hot water is heated by high efficiency gas fired storage heaters with sealed combustion condensing type burners. Decorative indirect lighting was used in the common areas with direct lighting utilized in resident rooms. Also included were complete fire alarm, plumbing, telephone/intercom, electrical and sprinkler systems.

A $12 million dollar project serving township offices,
administrative staff; separate police department including holding cells,
security, TV monitoring cameras, courtroom and ancillary spaces. Future
expansion space was built into the facility. An energy efficient gas fired
multiple boiler heating plant and air cooled chiller refrigeration plant was
designed to provide chilled water for each of three major building air handling
systems. A separate chiller and emergency generator serves the police
department. Overhead perimeter hot water radiant heat and zoned VAV induction
terminals provides each space heating, ventilating and air conditioning.
A $2.5 million dollar mechanical and electrical alteration.
Upgrading of one historical courtroom and two others. Converted all systems to
provide cooling/heating availability any time during the year.
A $15 million dollar campus to instruct Middlesex County Fire Departments in the state-of-the-art methods for fighting all types of fires, consisting of several buildings on a huge site. Main building houses, classrooms, instructor's offices, auditorium and dormitories as well as the hazardous waste unit with it's holding tanks, etc. In addition to the above, a fire training maze was constructed. Several buildings, including a fire house, a 2-story residential building and a 6-story building were built, representing all different uses. All of the buildings utilize recycled water for fire fighting through an extensive piping distribution system fed from a pond on the site.
Included on the site is a second pond, fed with gasoline and oil, as well as a mockup of a tank farm. Special systems include a fuel distribution center, a breathing air system to furnish air for fire department - Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and a special drainage system for hazardous waste material.
A $1.4 million dollar HVAC and plumbing improvement project at
Wing Three.
Alterations to existing Sanitary, furnishing new Sewers, Communitors, Manholes
and Flow Meters, total construction cost $675 thousand dollars.
A $4.5 million dollar Fire and Life Safety Project for fifteen
buildings and Plumbing Upgrades for five buildings.
New $12.5 million dollar facility, 67,000 sq.ft., two-story building designed for 100 beds and potential to double bunk. Complete Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Electrical Systems.
