PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design for
the proposed new 300,613 square foot facility provides for a four-story high
school, topped with two stories of the School District's Main Offices. The
utility of the site was maximized and allowed for the development of multiple
Physical Education fields. In addition to core curriculum and instructional
spaces, including thirty-five (35) general classrooms, which will accommodate
approximately 900 students, the school will feature a large multipurpose theater
for musical and theatrical productions, and a 1800-square-foot Drama Lab.
Additional focused areas include set design and woodworking shop, sewing and
costume fabrication lab, and a television studio.
The new school will provide separate entrances. The East entrance will serve as
the main entryway for the Performing Arts School Community and public audience
entry for theatrical performances. The West entrance is intended to be the main
entry for the gym. Additionally, a segregated entrance and lobby with stairs and
elevators to the Elizabeth Public Schools' District Offices will be located off
of Jacques Street. The building's public and assembly spaces occupy the first
two floors. Classrooms and related spaces will be located on the third and
fourth levels. The district offices occupying the final two levels have been set
back substantially from the floors below.
Construction Cost: $37.0 million
Completion Date: June 2009
