PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  A new 128,000 square-foot, two-story building will replace the 70-year-old vo-tech school on New Brunswick Avenue. The new high school will serve more than 250 students and offer training in seven career areas.

In the construction cluster, students will learn about air conditioning and refrigeration, carpentry and electricity. Service occupations will focus on auto mechanics and commercial foods, while technology studies will concentrate on computer application, computer repair and system design and computer-assisted drafting.

On a section of the second floor, measuring about 14,000 square feet, Edison-based Middlesex County College will house its Perth Amboy Urban Center, which will serve about 400 students.

The new school will feature a media center, where students will be able to retrieve data and use video on demand, a large cafeteria with a double kitchen and state-of-the-art science labs. Each classroom will be wired for voice, data and video technology.

Construction Cost:  $28.7 million

Completion Date:  Autumn 2003
